Hunting Safaris

Doctori Safaris offer hunting and fishing safaris for more than 20 species. Doctori specializes in affordability and diversity, with many hunters securing up to three game species in a single day. Doctori Safaris have a 95% success rate over all species and more than 20,000 acres of free-range private land for hunting. This is a professionally-guided hunting experience using top quality equipment and experienced guides.

Turkey (Mountain Merriams)

Turkey hunting Doctori Safaris has the best Merriam's turkey hunting in New Zealand (bow or shot gun), including a designated area of more than 1000 acres strictly for the bow hunter. Because there are no predators here in New Zealand, turkey numbers are high and less afraid than turkeys in the USA. But they are not easy. Our limit of five birds a day still takes some patience and skill. However, you will probably see more turkeys with Doctari Safaris than some hunters will see in a lifetime of hunting elsewhere.

The average mature tom weights 20lbs (depending on time of year), with a beard length average of seven inches. Taxidermy is also available , with full mounts or tail with beard mounts. Doctari boasts a 100% success rate on turkeys hunted.

Pig Hunting

Pig hunting If you enjoy an adrenaline rush, you'll enjoy hunting wild boar, using bow, rifle or dogs & knife. Many first-time pig hunters have shot their first pig with Doctari Safaris and our success rate of 99% in 2004 and 2005 says it all. Pigs from 50lbs up to 220 lbs have been taken this season. You pig will be skinned and boned for you, or, if you have taken a good trophy, Doctori Safaris will head skin it for your taxidermist. We have no trophy fees for pig hunting.

Goat

Goat hunting Doctari's goats are both alert and agile, making them a great challenge to hunt. Goats are multi-coloured, from the white Angora cross to the feral blacks and browns with some tri-colours. With a limit of five goats a day, you are assured of an excellent adventure among Doctori's stunning mountains.

Small Game

Small game hunting Small game hunting is enjoyed by a range of people. Hunters of all ages take advantage this sport - targeting rodents, rabbits, hares and possums - all being pests to New Zealand. There are numerous ways of hunting these small animals, including shooting by day with gun dogs, or nightshooting (lamping) with spot light on ATV or 4WD.

These hunts work well as a package deal:

  • bird hunting by day then nightshooting small game by night;
  • large game by day then small game by night.
